Do I have to pay for SSL?
No — a free, auto-renewing SSL certificate is included on every domain we manage and every hosting plan. For most websites that's all you'll ever need.
When would I need a paid certificate?
Paid certificates are for specific cases: organisation-validated (OV) or extended-validation (EV) certificates where you need your business name vetted and shown, or a wildcard certificate covering unlimited subdomains. We can issue these on request.
What's a wildcard certificate?
A wildcard certificate secures a domain and all of its subdomains (shop.yoursite.com, blog.yoursite.com, app.yoursite.com…) with a single certificate — handy when you run many subdomains.
Will SSL slow my site down?
No — modern HTTPS adds no meaningful overhead, and it's required for HTTP/2, better SEO and browser trust. There's no downside to having it on.
